SparkFun Bluetooth Mate Gold
A slight hint of what this product is about is our BlueSMiRF modem (in case you’ve seen it) It is very similar to it but with few differences, what are these differences that make this product very special?
First of all, it’s basically designed to be used especially with Arduino Pros and LilyPad Arduinos. What’s great about them is that they can be used to replace wireless for serial cables; also, they do have the ability to work as serial (RX/TX) pipe. Bluetooth Mater Gold makes it possible to pass a serial stream that ranges from 2400 to 115200bps from the computer to any other place of your choice.
In addition to this powerful ability, let’s talk a little bit about the pin out it has! Well, since it has the same pin out as the FTDI Basic, this allows it to be plugged right away directly into an Arduino Pro, Pro Mini, or LilyPad Mainboard, which is pretty awesome. However though, in case you want to plug the Bluetooth Mate into an FTDI Basic board, you won’t be able to instantly do that since it will require swapping between the TX and RX. Check out the other product which is the Bluetooth Mate Silver if you don’t require an extra range.
This product could make the power last between 3.3 to 6VDC power supply, where you can shift levels up and enjoy greater features. This unit ships with an RN-41 class 1 bluetooth module, a very easy-to-use and well documented bluetooth module
Use RS232 to TTL converter circuit to attach this to your computer, and not that it doesn’t come with a connector; You can also check this out if you want to connect it to an Arduino pro 6-pin right-angle female header and Crossover Breakout for FTDI!
Note that: In order to reset a Mate, all you have to do is pull the PIO6 pin high upon power-up, and then toggle it 3 times.
